Dear REROUTE Community,
After a long and unexpected pause, we’re back—and I want to begin by saying thank you. Thank you for your patience, your curiosity, and your continued belief in what REROUTE stands for.
REROUTE has always been a love letter to arts and culture, a space that unapologetically places neurodivergent artists, writers, and changemakers at the heart of the conversation. It’s why we were honored to not only be nominated, but shortlisted for Inclusion Project of the Year at the Celebrating Neurodiversity Awards—a recognition of our devotion to ensuring that neurodivergency not only has a seat at the table but is seen, celebrated, and heard in spaces where it has historically been absent.
This devotion has never wavered, even in our absence. But during this time away, we had to ask ourselves a hard question: If REROUTE claims to be truly inclusive, are we fully walking the walk?
Inclusion, after all, cannot just be a word we use. It has to be a practice. And that practice means expanding our lens to include not only neurodivergent voices but also neurotypical ones—artists, writers, activists, and changemakers who, like us, are shaping the culture around us. It’s not a compromise; it’s an evolution. It’s not a big deal; it’s the logical next step.
True inclusivity means bringing everyone into the fold, not to overshadow the distinct brilliance of neurodivergent creators but to reflect the beautifully interconnected world we live in. Our work will always spotlight neurodivergent creators—this is the soul of REROUTE—but it will also now include those whose perspectives and work complement and expand these narratives.
We believe this shift makes our magazine stronger, our storytelling richer, and our impact deeper. And we hope you’ll see, as we do, that this evolution is not about changing who we are but about living up to the values we’ve championed from day one.
We’re excited to move forward together, with the same love for the arts, the same passion for culture, and the same commitment to inclusivity that has always defined REROUTE.
Here’s to the next chapter.
With gratitude,
Yvette Bonilla Leach
